Who we are
The International Institute is an American non-profit founded in Boston in 1892. After more than 130 years, we are Madrid's main cultural bridge between Spain and the United States.
We promote educational and cultural exchange through our North American Language and Culture Program, through meetings and lectures between specialists from both countries, and through our library, ALMA (American Library in Madrid).
True to our origins, we keep our founding commitment to promoting the contribution of women in every area of public life.
What we do
- English courses for children, teens and adults, taught by native teachers.
- American Cultural Studies (ACS) courses and exam preparation (SAT, TOEFL, Cambridge).
- ART LAB and MAKERS LAB: art and technology in English for all ages.
- An open cultural agenda: concerts, lectures, clubs and exhibitions.
- Agreements with American universities: more than 1,000 U.S. students study in our classrooms every year.
